SCPC Urges CMS Not to Apply Retail Drug Pricing Benchmarks to Long-Term Care Pharmacies

DATE: November 3, 2026

On November 2, 2026, the Senior Care Pharmacy Coalition (SCPC) submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in response to the agency’s proposed extension of the information collection associated with the National Average Drug Acquisition Cost (NADAC) survey. While supporting efforts to improve transparency in prescription drug pricing, SCPC emphasized that NADAC, which reflects retail pharmacy drug acquisition costs, is not an appropriate reimbursement benchmark for long-term care (LTC) pharmacies, given their distinct operating models and specialized services. SCPC urged CMS to recognize these differences and ensure that any acquisition-cost benchmark applied to LTC pharmacies is based on LTC pharmacy data.
