    Op-Ed: Long-term care pharmacies need help to stay open

    I’ve long been an advocate for growing our business community in a thoughtful and sustainable way. What’s often missing from the economic development conversation is health care. Access to affordable, reliable care isn’t just a quality-of-life issue — it’s a business issue. When workers are healthy and families can stay in their communities, employers can grow, jobs can be filled, and local economies thrive. In rural areas especially, a strong health care system is essential infrastructure for economic growth.

    As a nurse anesthesiologist and owner of a nursing practice, I’ve come to really appreciate the collaborative ecosystem that is healthcare. Even something as simple as a prescription shows how interconnected our system is — you’ve got scientists developing treatments, providers making clinical decisions, and pharmacists making sure everything’s used properly, each bringing essential expertise to the table.

    Washington, D.C. (December 30, 2025) — A devastating long-term care crisis is unfolding in America’s nursing homes. New survey data released today by the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) and the Senior Care Pharmacy Coalition (SCPC) reveals that Medicare Part D drug pricing policies in the Inflation Reduction Act may force LTC pharmacy closures and widespread service cuts that could directly impact more than 80% of vulnerable long-term care residents nationwide.

    Senior Care Pharmacy Coalition Provides Comments on Improving Care for Dually Eligible Enrollees

    The Senior Care Pharmacy Coalition (SCPC), the only Washington-based organization exclusively representing the interests of long-term care (LTC) pharmacies, has responded to a Request for Information issued by a bipartisan group of Senators led by Senator Bill Cassidy (R-LA) regarding policy recommendations to improve care for enrollees dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid programs (dual eligibles) and substantially reduce the amount of money both programs otherwise would expect to spend over time.
